Recently, Juan Leyva – Moodle Mobile app team leader announced the development of the new Moodle mobile app in Moodle forums. The new app will have a lot of UX, performance and design improvements. The new changes in the app will give a modern look & feel to make it easier to use by learners and teachers.
To meet the latest standards and frameworks, the new avatar of the mobile app will work Android 4.4 or iOS 8 onwards devices. On moodle side the app needs sites running Moodle 3.1 version onwards. However, the old version of the Moodle mobile app will continue to work on sites running older Moodle versions and older mobile devices.
How it will impact site administrators and developers?
Moodle site administrators needs to updated their Moodle sites atleast to Moodle 3.1 version to use the new mobile app. The developers will need to update their remote add-ons to Ionic 3.
Mobile team is also working on providing support for Moodle plugins in the app so developers would be able to choose whether they want to update the remote add-on or support the plugin via the new “easy way”.
Few questions were asked by Moodle community like Sam Marshall from Open University, asked specific questions about the remote addon support in the new mobile app. Check them out in this forum thread. You can also ask if you have any questions related to the mobile app support in the same forum thread
